Isonzo, the town
of Villesse was already mentioned in 11th-century
documents related to the
powerful Abbey of
Rosazzo.
Since ancient times
Villesse (the origin of the
name is not certain) has
been a passage way, thus
often being the centre of
destructive events that
have deleted almost all
historical marks.
Occasional Roman
findings are conducive
to the presence of some
sort of settlement along
the road that led to Emona
(today's Lubjana).
