A territory in the resurgence area,
it has the fascination of bygone
times, especially the picturesque
village of Gradiscutta, with the mill
mentioned by Ermes di Colloredo and
Ippolito Nievo. Around the year 1000 the
German Patriarchs of Aquileia helped Slav
communities settle here to re-populate and farm
the fertile land and invited the lords of Warm to

built two castles which were
then destroyed. Several noble residences and
manor houses remain in the area, among which
Villa Canciani - Florio (17th-18th centuries)

quality works, such as the splendid altarpiece
by Pordenone (1529), ranking among his
masterpieces, in the parish church of Varmo,
and the lively cycle of frescoes attributed
to Thanner (16th cent.) in the small cemetery
church of Santa Marizza.
