The building that
holds most historical
and artistic vestiges is
certainly the church of
S. Leonardo at Cavalicco,
which was consecrated on
12 July 882: it boasts frescoes
|

dating to different periods,
among which the one in the
choir webs with Doctors of the
Church and symbols of the
Evangelists are noteworthy,
attributed to a Friulian painter
of the second half of the 15th
century. In the nave are scenes
from St. Leonardo's life by a
14th-century fine painter. The
church of S. Clemente at Adegliacco
has instead a fresco in
the vault by Carlo Boldi (1793).
Among civil buildings Villa di
Prampero is notable, located
as it is in the splendid natural
environment
of a large park
on the banks
of River
Cormor.

It is not certain that the name Udine is of
pre-Roman origin, as researchers support,
deriving from a word meaning 'mamma'
and then metaphorically 'hill'. The fact is,
however, that from the hill in the middle
of the city (which according to a
legend was formed with the earth
carried in Attila's soldiers'
helmets since the king, after
having sacked Aquileia, wanted to see
it on fire) it is possible to sweep in
