Situated at the
confluence of
Rivers Torre and
Judrio on an old
Roman crossroads to
which several findings are
referred, partly still walled in
later buildings, the most
significant traces of the town's
history are linked to the
Middle Ages at first and the
Venetian rule then. First of all,

the ancient centa, or ring of
walls with defensive turrets
dating to the 14th-15th
centuries, on which houses
were built. In the area of the
centa, the splendid Villa
Strassoldo, Pace (1700s) is
outstanding, surrounded as it

square on which also the
small church of
S. Margherita da Cortona
(1700s) fronts, containing
fittings of the same period and
19th-century frescoes, and
most of all the parish church
of S. Martino (17th cent.),
built on the site of a previous,
probably 15th-century church
of which only the good apse
frescoes attributed to a Tuscan
master remain. Inside is the
polychrome marble high altar
by Leonardo Zuliani.
