It is a highly
populated
municipality in the
Monfalcone area,
whose southern
boundary is marked by
River Isonzo and southwestern
boundary by a
coastal strip (Lido of
Staranzano, a modern
equipped beach) along the
Gulf of Panzano. The
result of reclamation works
to agricultural aim, the
territory of the
municipality is remarkable
from the naturalistic point

of view in its southern
part, where River Isonzo
flows into the sea close to
the long island of Cona, a
natural reserve that may
be visited: its about 2,400
hectares are the ideal
habitat for almost 300
species of marine avifauna
that build their nests there.
All historical and artistic
traces in town were
destroyed during the World
Wars; it is only in the
neighbourhoods of
Bistrigna and Dobbia that
some small baroque
churches can still
be found.
