The municipal territory is peppered with 17th- and 18thcentury villas: at Santa Maria la Longa, Villa Colloredo Mels, where during the First World War the first European centre for aerial photography was set, Villa Bearzi, now housing the Piccolo Cottolengo, surrounded by annexes built to perform all the charity's activities; at Mereto di Capitolo, Villa Morelli
Villa Bearzi de Rossi, Villa Cosattini Scala, Villa Brazzą Gortani where the surrender of Palmanova was signed on 24 June 1848; at Tissano, Villa Cainero Mauroner and Villa Agricola, Strassoldo, del Torso with its courtyard and park embellished with a pond, waterways and statues. At Mereto di Capitolo are altarpieces by Pietro Bainville and Giuseppe Cosattini.
Udine It is not certain that the name Udine is of pre-Roman origin, as researchers support, deriving from a word meaning 'mamma' and then metaphorically 'hill'.
