In the rich panorama
of villas and noble
palaces, Villa Trento
at Dolegnano
deserves a very
special place: built in the 18th
century and modified in the
1800s by Valentino Presani, a
famous architect and engineer
from Udine: it is a large-plan,
three-storey high manor house

 |
with two rustic wings
forming a courtyard on the
front and at the back it boasts
a wide park and fishpond. A
different structure is present
in Villa de Brandis, at
San Giovanni, built in 1722
and acquired by the
municipality in 1984: it has a
small gable on the façade,
rich furnishings inside,
frescoes by Antonio Picco
(19th cent.), an impressive
picture gallery with about
sixty good paintings from
the 14th to the 20th centuries.
The parish church of
S. Giovanni Battista was
designed in its present look
by Andrea Scala (19th cent.),
while 16th-century frescoes
by Giacomo Secante in the
church of SS. Filippo and
Giacomo at Villanova del
Judrio portray scenes from
the Gospels.

rightly sing: Cividale, in fact, since
its foundation by the
Romans, was the
main city in the area and under
the Lombards the capital of
the Duchy of Friuli. Still
today, thanks to its
urban plan, its
monuments, the...go
