Rigolato is renown in
Carnia especially
for the peculiar way
its inhabitants have of
pronouncing the
-o sound and for the fact that its
districts are crowded up to the
steep slopes of the mountains
of Val Degano. Gracco,
Givigliana, Valpicetto count
among the most picturesque
villages in Carnia, boasting
splendid examples of rural
architecture. Now that the
copper and silver mines of
nearby Mount Avanza are no
longer exploited, the town
thrives mainly on agriculture,
exploitation of the surrounding
woods and most of all tourism,
thanks to its ideal location in
the mountains. The parish
church, probably built on a
design by Domenico Schiavi,
contains a lovely high altar in
polychrome marble, while
traces of 14th-century frescoes
and some interesting wooden
statues may be found in the
church of Vuezzis. Modest
quality 16th-century frescoes
by unknown artist decorate the
choir walls in the church of
S. Barbara at Valpicetto and in
the small church of Gracco is
a wooden altar of 1688.

Covered with woods and meadows,
rich in waterways and small lakes
reflecting the blue sky, surrounded by
harsh mountains and gently rolling
hills, Carnia, yet untouched by mass
tourism, is the ideal place for those
who prefer relaxing
holidays,
invigorating both the body and
the mind not only for its
natural beauties but also
for what man has been...go
