Located at the foot
of the mountains,
the landscape of
Polcenigo is highly
enhanced by the
presence of several streams:
the water is both heard and
seen. Whether it flows limpid and soft near
the enchanting sources of Gorgazzo, or
when it forms small rapids, it always

accompanies the visitors in their wanderings
in the territory, to discover at first the
archaeological remains of lake dwellings at
Palù di Livenza, and then, near the sources
of River Livenza, the Church of Santissima
Trinità at Coltura,
which seems to
sanction the sanctity
of the bond with
the water element. The church treasures a
precious polychrome wooden sculpture by
Domenico da Tolmezzo portraying the Holy
Trinity (1496) emphatically framed by an
overflowing carved altar by the Ghirlanduzzi
di Ceneda (17th cent.). The complex of

monastery of San Giacomo
overlooks the network of streams and small
waterfalls weaving through the town from
the hill on which the remains of the castle
are (actually, villa Polcenigo, 18th cent.). The
complex houses fragments of
14th-century wall painting and an Altarpiece
of All Saints attributed to Francesco da
Milano (first half of the 16th cent.) whereas
in today's rectory the composite Renaissance
decorations culminate in a series of lively
long wooden strips with heraldic and
allegorical subjects and portraits. In the
historical centre remarkable examples of
civil architecture stand out, among which, on
the main square, Palazzo Fullini-Zaia
In the Church of Mezzomonte the marble
altar with figures of angels in the embrasure
is notable (end of 16th cent.).
In the neighbourhood of San Giovanni,
the Parco di San Floriano is certainly
worth a visit: inside the park, the church by
the same name exhibits frescoes
of the Apostles, Christ in the mandorla
and Evangelists in the apse
(end of 14th-early 15th cent.)

The landscape surrounding
Pordenone is lively and varied,
changing from the ups and downs of
the Pedemontana hills and the green
area of Polcenigo to the expanse
of cultivated and clay-coloured fields
of the southern area.
