Rich in woods
and karst
vegetation, the area
still retains examples
of traditional
architecture and agricultural
and craft activities: terrano
wine, tabor cheese, and marble
quarries. The village of
Zolla-Col is dominated by the
fortress of Monrupino
(a former protohistoric
castelliere) still surrounding
the houses with their
traditional roofs of limestone
slabs, and by the 16th-century
Church of Beata Vergine
Assunta, a Marian Sanctuary.
Here, every second year, in
August, the traditional karst
nuptials in costume,
following last century's
ceremony, takes place. The
scarcity of superficial water
forced the people who lived
here to

create ponds and reservoirs that have become
natural oases, as the Dolina
of Percedol, one of the
largest, which is a
protected wildlife
reserve.
