Marked by the presence of
humid grassland with
natural resurgence springs and
by the River Corno on which
three water mills were built, the
area had a crucial role in Roman times
thanks to the route of ancient
Via Postumia and became a military
outpost in Lombard times (warriors'
tombs and the tomb of a goldsmith have
been found). Once the old 18th-century
church was demolished and replaced with
a modern one, it is mainly in the nearby

neighbourhoods that works of art are preserved: at Fauglis is the elegant
Villa Campiutti, Fabris, Vianello,
Capitanio (19th cent.), embellished with
Roman finds and frescoed inside with
scenes from the Divine Comedy; at
Ontagnano the church of S. Michele
Arcangelo (16th-18th, and 20th centuries)
has notable 18th-century marble altars.
A worthwhile example of contemporary
art is, finally, the flower-shaped
Cemetery Ossuary, built in 1973 as
a memorial for the victims of a
concentration camp for Croatian
and Slovenian prisoners during the
Second World War.
