Marked by the presence of humid grassland with natural resurgence springs and by the River Corno on which three water mills were built, the area had a crucial role in Roman times thanks to the route of ancient Via Postumia and became a military outpost in Lombard times (warriors' tombs and the tomb of a goldsmith have been found). Once the old 18th-century church was demolished and replaced with a modern one, it is mainly in the nearby
villa Campiutti, Fabris, Vianello, Capitanio neighbourhoods that works of art are preserved: at Fauglis is the elegant Villa Campiutti, Fabris, Vianello, Capitanio (19th cent.), embellished with Roman finds and frescoed inside with scenes from the Divine Comedy; at Ontagnano the church of S. Michele Arcangelo (16th-18th, and 20th centuries) has notable 18th-century marble altars. A worthwhile example of contemporary art is, finally, the flower-shaped Cemetery Ossuary, built in 1973 as a memorial for the victims of a concentration camp for Croatian and Slovenian prisoners during the Second World War.
