Traces of settlements
from the Bronze
Age were found at
Esemon di Sotto and
on San Rocco hill and
from the Roman age at
Quinis, thus confirming that
Enemonzo has been inhabited
since the remotest times.
In spite of damages caused by
the 1976 earthquake, several
houses by the typical
architecture have survived, as
the Casa della Pesa (weigh
house) at Enemonzo, the
oldest building in town, Casa
Vesil at Colza, Casa Lì di
Nart at Maiaso, Casa Codem
in the hamlet of Pani.
Churches here generally
contain good artistic works,
such as the cycle of frescoes
by Pietro Fuluto (1513) in the
choir and triumphal arch in
S. Giorgio at Colza, portraying
holy characters and fabulous
scenes from the life of St.
George, or the frescoes by
Giulio Urbanis (1588) in
S. Giuliana at Fresis, or still
the nice 14th-century wooden
statue of the Saint in S. Nicolò
at Maiaso together with a stone
triptych walled in the façade.
A climb to Mont Freide
(1316 m) affords a lovely
view of the valleys below.

Covered with woods and meadows,
rich in waterways and small lakes
reflecting the blue sky, surrounded by
harsh mountains and gently rolling
hills, Carnia, yet untouched by mass
tourism, is the ideal place for those
who prefer relaxing
holidays,
invigorating both the body and
the mind not only for its
natural beauties but also
for what man has been...go
