The origins of
Dogna, whose
Slovenian name
place probably
means "set below",
are unknown, but its location
in a valley at the crossroads
of important communication
routes must have favoured
ancient settlements,
of which,
however,
no archaeological and
documental traces have
remained. The oldest and
most typical houses are found
in the rural districts of Val
Dogna, all recognizable by
the characteristic place name
of Chiout (meaning "closed space"):

among them is the
district of Chiutzuquin.
The parish church of
S. Leonardo was consecrated
in 1949: designed on a Greek
cross plan by architect
Leo Morandini, it is preceded
by a portico; remarkable are
the elevated cupola on the
barrel vault, looking like a
keep on the outside, and the
campanile.

Tarvisio following the valley of River

valley of Torrent Gailitz whose

Tarvisio, flow into the
River Gail and
