Cavazzo Carnico was mentioned as early as the late 11th century as it was among the rural churches assigned by Patriarch Vodolrico to the Abbey of Moggio. From above, the lovely rural church of Cesclans dominates the towns of the great lake (called of Cavazzo or of the
Carved and painted altarpiece in the church of S. Rocco three towns): it was demolished by the 1976 earthquake, but the recent archaeological excavations carried out during the reconstruction phase have brought to light fragments of frescoes and pottery, which support the idea that the church has existed for a very long time. Today, the most important church, from the artistic point of view, is the 18th-century S. Daniele preserving a small painting by Pietro Antonio Novelli, two good paintings brought here from Venice at the end of the 19th century (Nativity by Domenico Tintoretto and Flight to Egypt by Francesco Bassano), as well as paintings by Giuseppe Buzzi, who also left paintings in S. Rocco.
