A rustic Roman
villa with
necropolis used to be
in the neighbourhood
of Cavenzano, as
shown by the finding of the
so-called navarca, an
exceptional Augustan statue
now exhibited in the Museum
at Aquileia). The same
neighbourhood also hosts the
now dilapidated Villa
Antonini (17th cent.), with its
park and annexes, whose
interiors were frescoed by
Giulio Quaglio, and the
18th-century church of
S. Maria Assunta. At
Campolongo, the lovely small
church of

S. Leonardo
(17th cent.), with its bell gable
and portico, contains a remarkable wooden gilded
and painted altarpiece
(17th-18th centuries). In the
18th-century parish church
dedicated to S. Giorgio
works by Simone Pariotti
(1700s), Gasparo
Cordobense (1600s) and
others are kept. The effects
of century-old Venetian rule
are still felt on the walls of
both Villa Marcotti
(1700s), now the Town Hall,
and the bell tower of the
parish church, where
St. Mark's Lion makes a
fine show.
