At Pagnacco several typical rural buildings can still be seen and special mention must be made of the rural village at the foot of the Castle of Fontanabona, still characterized by partly
Castle of Fontanabona 16th- and 17th-century architecture and by the original urban plan. Some lovely villas are scattered in the surrounding countryside, among which Villa Colombatti at Castellerio and Villa Savorgnan di Brazzą at Pagnacco are worth seeing. The parish church of S. Giorgio in Pagnacco contains an exquisite 16th-century spout by Bernardino da Bissone, and the church of S. Floreano at Plaino has a fresco by Carlo Boldi portraying the Adoration of the Magi (end of 18th cent.).
Udine It is not certain that the name Udine is of pre-Roman origin, as researchers support, deriving from a word meaning 'mamma' and then metaphorically 'hill'.
